Sublimation Printing – Ink & Transfer Paper Ratio Guide
When purchasing a sublimation printer bundle, it is important to check the amount of ink and transfer paper is included. Remember that ink and transfer paper are both consumables. Knowing how much transfer paper you are likely to use alongside your sublimation ink can help you avoid running out of paper halfway through a project.
At HobbyPrint®, our sublimation printer bundles are supplied with sublimation ink and transfer paper, giving you everything you need to get started.
Check your bundle contents before you buy to ensure you have the right ink to transfer paper ratio to get you started. Paper and ink volumes vary between different suppliers’ bundles.
But how long will your transfer paper last?
When Will I Need More Sublimation Transfer Paper?
When using your HobbyPrint® sublimation printer bundle, the amount of transfer paper you need will depend on how much ink is used for each design.
As a general guide, one refillable cartridge filled with sublimation ink will produce approximately 25–40 A4 images, depending on image coverage and print settings.
Ink & Transfer Paper Guide
| Ink Supplied | Approx. Cartridge Fills | Approx. A4 Prints | Transfer Paper Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30ml of each colour | 3–4 | 75–160 | 75–160 sheets |
| 100ml of each colour | 13–14 | 325–560 | 325–560 sheets |
These figures are approximate. A full-page photograph will use more ink than a smaller design or logo, so actual print quantities will vary.
What Does This Mean for Your Supplies?
A 30ml bottle of each colour should provide enough ink for approximately 75–160 A4 images, meaning you may use around the same number of sheets of A4 transfer paper.
A 100ml bottle of each colour could provide approximately 325–560 A4 images, requiring around 325–560 sheets of transfer paper — equivalent to approximately 4–6 packs of 100 sheets.
Top Tip: Don’t wait until your transfer paper runs out. If you still have plenty of sublimation ink remaining, make sure you have enough paper available to use it.
Print yields can vary according to image coverage, print quality, printer settings and maintenance cycles, so the figures above should be used as a guide rather than an exact print yield.
Always check your individual HobbyPrint® bundle for the quantity of ink and transfer paper supplied.
